Privacy Policy

PollenCompass has no account, no analytics and no advertising. Everything the app knows about you stays on your device.

PollenCompass is in development and not yet on the App Store. The app sections below describe how the app works and apply once it is available.

1. Who is responsible

This website and the PollenCompass app are provided by the developer of PollenCompass, who is the controller for the personal information described here. Privacy questions: contact@pollencompass.com.

2. What leaves your device

There is no PollenCompass server. Apart from the forecast requests below, nothing the app knows about you is sent anywhere. Only the information needed to answer a forecast question is sent, and only when you ask:

  • Open-Meteo receives the coordinates of the place you are viewing, to fetch its pollen, air-quality and weather forecast, and the text you type when searching for a city.
  • Apple receives your coordinates if you use “Use my current location”, to turn them into a city name.
  • Google receives the same coordinates only if the app is configured with a Google Pollen API key and the place lies outside the European forecast area. The app shows the source on screen when this happens.

Nothing else is transmitted. Your allergen profile, your saved places and your symptom diary are never uploaded.

3. What stays on your device

  • Your allergen profile and sensitivity settings
  • Saved places and the cached forecast for each of them
  • Your symptom diary, stored with iOS file protection so it cannot be read while the device is locked
  • Notification and Live Activity preferences

These are kept in the app’s own storage on your device. The app does not sync them to iCloud or to any server. If you back up your iPhone, iOS may include them in that backup, which stays under your control.

Purchases

Apple handles all App Store payments. We never see your payment details. The app only learns whether a Pro purchase is active. Purchases stay with your Apple Account and can be restored at any time.

Permissions

Location and notification access can be withdrawn at any time in the iOS Settings app. PollenCompass keeps working without location: you can search for a city instead.

4. This website

This website presents the app. It has no accounts, contact forms, payments or allergy diary, and it does not ask for your location.

Website delivery

Your browser sends the information needed to deliver a page, such as your IP address, the requested address and browser details. The hosting provider that serves these pages processes this information to deliver them and protect them against abuse, and may keep access logs under its own retention policy.

Fonts, images and scripts are all served from this website itself. Viewing it does not contact any font service, analytics provider or other third party.

Cookies and local storage

This website does not set cookies and does not use advertising or visitor analytics. If you close the notice that says so, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage on your device. It is not sent to us, and you can remove it by clearing this site’s data in your browser.

If you follow a link to Apple, Open-Meteo or another site, that site’s own privacy notice applies.

5. Purposes and legal bases

Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Forecast and city-search requests from the app: necessary to provide the forecast you ask for (Article 6(1)(b)).
  • Delivering and securing this website, including access logs: our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website (Article 6(1)(f)).
  • Support emails: necessary to answer your request (Article 6(1)(b)), or our legitimate interest in responding to questions (Article 6(1)(f)).

Diary entries can reveal health information. They are processed only on your device and never reach us, so we do not process health data about you.

The app turns forecasts and your selected allergens into a personal 0–10 score on your device. The score is informational and has no legal or similarly significant effect on you. Not medical advice: PollenCompass does not diagnose, treat or prevent allergies.

6. Recipients and transfers

The recipients are Open-Meteo, Apple and Google for the app requests described in section 2, and the website’s hosting provider. Each applies its own privacy policy: see Open-Meteo’s terms and privacy information, Apple’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy.

Europe-only forecast coverage does not mean every request stays in Europe. Apple and Google are based in the United States and describe the safeguards they use for international transfers in their privacy policies.

7. Retention and deletion

Coordinates travel with each forecast request and are not stored by us; there is no copy of your data anywhere but your device. Open-Meteo, Apple and Google apply their own retention policies to the requests they receive.

On your device, your allergen profile, saved places and settings are kept until you change or remove them. A place’s cached forecast is deleted together with that place. The widget snapshot is replaced on every refresh and ignored once it is a day old. Diary entries are kept until you delete them.

  • One diary entry: swipe it in the Diary tab.
  • One place: swipe it in Settings. Its cached forecast goes with it.
  • Everything: Settings → Delete all app data, or delete PollenCompass from your device.

Deleting app data does not cancel a subscription; manage that in your Apple Account. Support emails are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

8. Your privacy rights

Where GDPR applies, and subject to its conditions and exceptions, you may request access to your personal information, correction, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent where consent is the legal basis.

Because the app keeps nothing about you outside your device, there is usually nothing for us to access, export, correct or erase on your behalf: deleting it in the app removes it completely. These rights do cover support emails you send us. Send a request to contact@pollencompass.com. Under GDPR, requests are generally answered within one month.

You may complain to a supervisory authority, including in the EU country where you live, work or believe an infringement occurred. Find your authority through the European Data Protection Board. You do not have to contact us first.

9. Children

PollenCompass is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from them.

10. Data sources

Pollen and air-quality data contain modified Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) information, redistributed by Open-Meteo under CC BY 4.0. Neither the European Commission nor ECMWF is responsible for any use that may be made of the information.

11. Changes

If this policy changes, the date below changes with it, and material changes will be explained on this page.
